Hi there,
This issue's idea: your baseline month
When income goes up and down, it's tempting to plan around an average month. The trouble is that half your months are below average. Look back over the last six months and find your lowest normal month. That's your baseline. If your essentials fit inside it, lean months stop being emergencies.

One thing to set up this week
Open a second account to be your "holding" account and point your payouts there. It's the first step to paying yourself the same amount every month. See The two-account system.
Reader question
"I drive for two apps. How much should I set aside for taxes?" It depends on your total income and expenses, so we can't give one number. Many people move 20% to 30% of each payout to a separate tax account and check the IRS estimated tax worksheet each quarter. A tax professional can help you find your number.
